Welcome to my homepage. By the picture above you can see that I am what you humans call a raccoon. The name "raccoon" comes from an Algonquin Indian word "arukun," which means "he who scratches with his hands."

My scientific name is "procyon lotor". In Latin "pro-cyon" means "before-dog", but I don't know what dogs have to do with it. I don't like dogs. I think I'm more closely related to bears. The other part, "lotor," means "washer." In fact, in German I am called Waschbär which, translated literally into English, is wash-bear. Now you know where this website gets its name.
